Deep Impact Explosion
The 15,000 Megatons explosion will fracture the 125 billion metric ton comet into billions of fragments that will disperse in an orbit around the sun and periodically collide with earth for years to come. See pictures from the Deep Impact Movie.

Since the Tempel 1 Comet was orbiting the sun, what was not devastated by the initial blasts will be destroyed in subsequent years by the remaining comet fragments.
After years of destruction, only several thousand people may survive. Mankind will be driven back to living as caveman.
